Islands of the World Fashion Showcase rocks again

Hundreds gathered to the premier spring/summer edition of Islands of the World Fashion Showcase. It was a full house evening. Only standing room was available at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort’s ballroom for the much anticipated event where 11 designers, representing the island nations of The Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, St. Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago, debuted their collections to the world. From racy swimwear to dynamic resort wear with asymmetrical embellishments, the showcase kept its captivated audience speechless.

The designer lineup included IWFS veterans Darcel de Vlugt from Trinidad & Tobago, David Rolle, Theodore Sealy and Harl Taylor BAG, all from The Bahamas as well as Chelsea Johnson, Courtney McIntosh and Derrica Williamson from The Bahamas, Alexis Campbell and Kesia Estwick of Barbados, Carol Fraser of Guyana and Sharleen Lagon representing Saint Lucia.

Inspired by various genres and time periods, each collection clearly expressed themes in a cohesive and spectacular way.

“I think we had a great turnout and the audience enjoyed the show fully,” said Indira Moss, production manager for the event. “It was clear that the designers put their hearts into each piece of their collections and it showed through their attention to detail and mixture of fibres and textures.

“It was all different. Months of hard work paid off and we were very impressed with what they accomplished. I’m confident they will all be successful in the future.”

Aside from the dynamic work of the fashion designers, the showcase also paid tribute to the late Jackson Burnside through the innovative creations of the participants of the Jackson Burnside Fashion & Design award. Architect Val Pintard, designer Apryl Burrows, interior designer Elizabeth Clarke and draftsman Reuno Pratt took on the challenge of creating one-of-a-kind wearable garments made from materials used in the built environment. The result – an inspiring display of ingenuity and creative know-how that stunned the audience.

A high-energy acrobatic dance routine by the Silk and Steel dance troupe set the stage for the night with an incredible performance. Further performing for the audience were two young up-and-coming Bahamian artistes, Shaton and Zee who graciously accompanied the ExÎles Explosion – a male lingerie spectacle that showcased jaw-dropping pieces from international couture lingerie houses CoutureBoy and Lee Greggory.

The Jackson Burnside Award was handed out to Elizabeth Clarke and Bruno Pratt for their innovative and creative ability. Taking home the Sustainable Eco-Fashion Award was Harl Taylor BAG.

The Culture and Fashion Award which was won by David Rolle from the House of Raphelita and the coveted NextGen Designer award was given to Grand Bahama native, Courtney McIntosh, who could not contain her excitement after winning the award.

Endorsed from its inception in 2008 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Islands of the World Fashion Showcase (formerly Islands of the World Fashion Week) has been successful in fulfilling its mandate of promoting island designers from around the world and exposing them to international media and buyers.

Donna Summer Dies Aged 63: We Remember The Disco Queen's Finest Moments

Yesterday afternoon, news arrived that Donna Summer has died. Aged just 63, the legendary singer lost her
battle to lung cancer after ten months.
Donna Summer Dies Aged 63: We Remember The Disco Queen
Celebrity tributes quickly poured in to pay homage to the star. Rihanna tweeted ‘RIP Donna Summer, Queen of Disco!!’ while Mary J Blige described the star as a ‘game changer’ and Donna’s producer Quincy Jones left a message hailing Donna’s voice as ‘the heartbeat and soundtrack of a decade.’ The fact that everyone from Robyn, Adam Lambert, Dolly Parton, Kylie Minogue and Solange Knowles rushed to tweet about the effect Donna Summer had on them proves just how much of an icon she was.
With tunes like ‘I Feel Love’, ‘Hot Stuff’ and 1975’s ‘Love To Love You Baby’ (which we couldn’t get out of our heads after Rachel sang it in 'Friends') it’s no surprise that Ms Summer had 29 UK top 40 singles in her career, won five Grammy Awards and influenced everyone from Madonna to Whitney Houston.  WOW.
Having only told her husband and children of her diagnosis, it came as a surprise to the public and fans have been laying flowers on Donna’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star in Los Angeles. So let's pay our own tribute to the Disco Queen by remembering some of her finest outfits in the gallery above and having a sing-a-long to the tunes below...

Cynthia Rowley Makes Your Surf-Related Accidents All Better

Cynthia-Rowley-bandaids

Getting major reef burn does not rule, and splashing around in the water, playing volleyball on the sand, and getting your surf on isn't always accident-free. Which is why Cynthia Rowley, self-professed beach bum and board rider, has come up with a chic way to cover up any boo-boos when you are ocean-bound. In her second collaboration with Band-Aids, the designer has created eight designs that're meant to patch you up without taking on that dirty beige color your regular bandages take on after a few hours of use. The selections promise to be totally waterproof (so you can get back to your surfboard/game/lounging) and also come with Neosporin to kill any bad bacteria. With sassy offerings, like a technicolor seahorse or an X-ray jellyfish, the boo-boo coverups all certainly cooler than those Dora The Explorer Band-Aids you're still using.Cynthia Rowley Band-Aids, $12, available at Cynthia Rowley.

Heidi Klum and Seal Divorce: Is Partying to Blame?

Right now the couple seems to be trying to work things out, but Heidi’s hubby is going to have to calm down if he wants to keep the sexy supermodel in his life—apparently his love of partying has something to do with why they’re considering calling it quits.
A love of partying also might have played a part in Katy Perry and Russell Brand’s divorce—Russell is a recovering addict who reportedly wanted to start a family, while Katy seems to be a party girl who isn’t ready for kids yet. If these allegations about Katy and Russell are true, then it’s a good thing they decided to split up before having a kid—divorce can be so much worse with children involved.
Unfortunately, there are four kids involved in Heidi Klum and Seal’s divorce. But having so many kids might have something to do why while Heidi’s hubby has been partying so much lately—he’s approaching 50, so perhaps the musician is trying to recapture the glory of his “Kiss from a Rose” days (you know he had to have a lot of groupies and a lot of parties to attend back in the mid-90s). He and Heidi Klum only had a few short months together before becoming parents, so this might have also been hard on him—she gave birth to another man’s baby (her daughter Leni) a few months after they got engaged in 2004.
Seal’s been a great husband to Heidi Klum and a great father to their four kids since then, but perhaps he’s just freaking out with a midlife crisis of sorts. Here’s what a source toldThe Mirror about his worsening erratic behavior: “Seal seem to have been partying a lot more often than usual. When they had their holiday in Ibiza in the summer last year Seal hit it hard, was out at clubs and with his friends a lot and Heidi was left with their kids trying to enjoy herself. The cracks were appearing and everybody was talking during that trip. He seemed off the rails.”
So of course Heidi Klum is going to be angry at her hubby for leaving her with the kids while he parties; such behavior would certainly upset any wife. The couple has also been spending a lot of time apart, something that might have also played a part in the divorce of Katy Perry and Russell Brand.
So do you think Seal will settle down now that he realizes that he might lose Heidi Klum, or is he just too desperate to live the life of a single man once again?

Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom Are Back in Dallas

Khloe Kardashian had a great time visiting her family in Los Angeles but she is thrilled to be back in Dallas—with her hubby! She definitely missed her Lam Lam and she is so happy to have Lamar Odom home with her!
“Just landed in tFile:Khloe Kardashian 2009.jpghe Big D… My hubby just landed too,” Khloe Kardashian tweeted on Saturday night. She had been missing her man—and understandably so! It is never easy being married to someone who has to travel a lot for work and that is just something that Khloe Kardashianand Lamar have had to get used to. They have Skype dates when they are apart and while it helps, there is nothing like them being home together.
Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom seem to have a very healthy relationship. They care about each other and they are just really connected in a way that most people could never understand. It’s great to hear that are both back in Dallas, safe and sound, and hopefully they will be spending a lot of alone time together today!

It's been a while since I've done a particular category topic. So I decided to proceed with one of my favorites. I love this style, mostly because it is an area of I would love to master, but have not yet.I know when the word architecture is used, we all think "building". Most of the mind has a tendency to visualize the weird and wonderful structures, rather than the more basic, everyday side of the building.
It is much easier to view architectural design than to explain it. Its beauty is in your individualperception of it and joy received by the eye for lines and now moves from detail to detail.
